Power Generation

Sensonics has worked with the power generation industry since the 1970’s providing specialised instrumentation solutions for equipment condition monitoring as well as essential protection and process interlocks for critical rotating plant. Our sensors are designed for harsh conditions and can be found monitoring bearing vibration, differential expansion, shaft eccentricity, valve position and rotational speed on a wide range of turbines and balance of plant.

Over the years we have developed specific measurement algorithms focused at the power industries needs, this experience and knowledge is now operating on our third generation hardware platform Sentry G3, the most advanced machinery protection system available on the market. Sensonics has a reputation for providing high reliability equipment in combination with excellent support and we go out of our way to maintain existing equipment maximising the customer return on investment.

Steam Turbines

Sensonics instrumentation offers both monitoring of the dynamic behaviour of a steam turbine as well as providing the essential measurement interlocks for the smooth operation of the plant.
Our range of velocity vibration transducers offers both piezoelectric and electrodynamic options for the measurement of bearing and casing vibration. For shaft vibration, eccentricity, position and differential expansion our Senturion X range of proximity probes provide 2mm to 25mm measurement range options to meet with a wide variety of applications. For valve position and casing expansion our LVDT’s are recognised as providing accuracy and longevity in the most demanding applications.
To provide the sensor signal conditioning our Sentry G3 supervisory system has tailored measurement algorithms for steam turbine applications. From eccentricity determination on barring through to complex differential expansion set ups, Sensonics has the experience to provide the right measurement, for both new and existing turbine installations. Condition monitoring is available through our optional CMS plug in providing a suite of analysis tools to monitor the detailed dynamic behaviour of the turbine set.

Gas Turbines

Sensonics instrumentation offers a range of condition monitoring solutions for Gas Turbines to provide the operator critical information on vibration, dynamic pressure and temperature performance.
Our range of vibration sensors offers both piezoelectric and electrodynamic velocity sensing options for the measurement of bearing and casing vibration with operation up to 450°C.
To provide the sensor signal conditioning our Sentry G3 supervisory system has tailored measurement algorithms for gas turbine applications. These offer a range of both vibration and dynamic pressure measurements with fixed frequency band and harmonic tracking options.
Condition monitoring is available through our optional CMS plug in providing a suite of analysis tools to monitor the detailed dynamic behaviour of the turbine set.

Hydroelectric

Sensonics offers a range of instrumentation for Hydroelectric Machines which provide the operator critical information on both turbine and generator performance.
Our vibration sensors offer both piezoelectric and electrodynamic velocity sensing options, as well as a range of proximity probes for the measurement of guide bearing vibration at slow rotational speeds, stator vibration and thrust bearing position.
Generator stator and rotor air gap analysis is a key parameter to be monitored, particularly on larger machines. Sensonics CS range of air gap sensors provide a measurement range of up to 75mm providing both dynamic and processed gap outputs.
Sensor signal conditioning can be performed with our Sentry G3 supervisory system, or our DN26G3 monitor, which is popular on smaller installations and specifically designed with low frequency vibration algorithms suited to hydroelectric installations.

Balance of Plant

It is now common in the power industry to afford a high level of condition monitoring to the balance of plant machines such as pumps, fans, motors, etc.
Sensonics offer a wide range of instrumentation to suite this type of plant providing measurements compliant with ISO vibration standards.
Our range of vibration sensors offers piezoelectric accelerometers, electrodynamic velocity sensors and proximity probes. All available with direct 4-20mA processed outputs for vibration, shaft position and speed, a very cost effective method for balance of plant monitoring.
To provide additional functionality such as shutdown protection and digital communications our Sentry G3 supervisory system, or our DN26G3 monitor which is ideal for local machine panel integration, are both cost effective solution.
A CMS plug in to the Sentry G3 system provides a suite of analysis tools to monitor the detailed dynamic behaviour of a wide range of machines.

Wind

Sensonics piezoelectric accelerometers are utilised on a wide range of wind turbines to provide vibration monitoring of the main bearings and gearbox.
Our expertise in sensing enables us to offer a low frequency response down to 0.1Hz with excellent noise performance providing the necessary dynamic range required for detailed analysis of gearbox vibration.
While our range of seismic sensors with high output sensitivity are suited for vibration monitoring of the tower structure.
